The Nigerian Navy has uncovered a dugout reservoir containing about 10,000 litres of substance suspected to be stolen crude oil in Delta.
This is contained in a statement by the Director of Naval Information, Navy Capt. Abiodun Folorunsho, on Friday in Abuja.
Folorunsho said the discovery was made on Sept. 2 by personnel of NNS DELTA during an anti-crude oil theft operation in the Oteghele general area.
He said the operation followed credible intelligence on suspected illicit petroleum activities within the unit’s Area of Operations.
The naval spokesman said the reservoir and its contents were handled in line with established procedures to prevent further use for illegal activities.
He added that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to deny criminal operators access to crude oil and infrastructure used for its illegal exploitation.
Folorunsho reiterated navy’s commitment to sustaining operations against crude oil theft and other illicit activities within the nation’s maritime and oil-producing areas.
