The Nigerian Navy and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have destroyed 329,865.585 kilogrammes of assorted illicit drugs valued at ₦301.058 billion in Lagos.
This is contained in a statement by the Director of Naval Information, Navy Capt. Abiodun Folorunsho, on Tuesday in Abuja.
Folorunsho said the drugs were destroyed during a public exercise conducted by the NDLEA Lagos State Strategic Command on Monday at the Nigerian Navy Marine Centre, Navy Town, Ojo.
He said the exercise brought together senior officials of the Nigerian Navy, NDLEA, Lagos State Government, Nigeria Customs Service and other stakeholders.
“The destroyed exhibits comprised 246,864.535 kilogrammes seized by the NDLEA Lagos State Strategic Command between April 2025 and May 2026.
“Another 83,001.050 kilogrammes were recovered by the agency’s MMIA, Tin Can, Apapa Strategic Commands and Marine Command.
“The substances included cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, cannabis, ephedrine, tramadol, codeine syrup and other opioids.
“The drugs had an estimated combined street value of ₦301,058,076,000,” he said.
Speaking at the exercise, the Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Adm. Abubakar Mustapha, stressed sustained inter-agency cooperation to tackle emerging security threats.
Mustapha, who represented the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Adm. Idi Abbas, commended the longstanding partnership between the Navy and NDLEA.
He said the collaboration had strengthened efforts to disrupt illicit drug networks and interdict vessels of interest within the maritime environment.
The FOC said effective cooperation among security agencies remained critical to confronting criminal networks whose activities threatened national security and public safety.
The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, retired Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa, described the destruction as a demonstration of Nigeria’s resolve to permanently remove seized illicit drugs from circulation.
Marwa said the exercise would also deny criminal elements the resources required to sustain their illicit activities.
He said continued collaboration among relevant security and law-enforcement agencies remained essential to disrupting the supply chains supporting drug trafficking.
The Nigerian Navy reaffirmed its commitment to deepening cooperation with the NDLEA and other agencies to combat illicit drug trafficking and strengthen national security.
It also pledged continued support for efforts aimed at securing Nigeria’s maritime environment from criminal activities. (DECAN)
